This is a fabulous and extremely rare Joesph Heinrich complete tea or coffee service set.
It is a HUGE set and magnificent.
In excellent condition. See photos. There is a bend in the tray on an
edge.
I did clean the top of one saucer.
The cups are bottomless as they would have had glass inserts.
Includes
hot water urn, rabbit figural stand, huge tray, 8 cups and saucers,
cream/milk bowl, sugar bowl,
screen for privacy or whatever.
The burner
is well designed with a sliding snuffer.
All the wicks are still in there.
There is also a salt and pepper set
with 3 pieces and a stand with handle.
There is also what looks like a
small burner or even perhas a cigar lighter.
I copied in some
information from the Internet.
Please ask any questions. All
the pieces are all hallmarked except for the screen but it is obviously
part of this set.
I imagine this came from an old train or hotel as
Joseph Heinrich made stuff for them.
I have not washed or polished any
of this set except for in saucer just to see what it might look like.
This is an early piece c1897-1899. After 1900 he made plainer items.
The
tray is 475 mm diameter, or 1 foot 7 inches.
The hot water tank is 22
cms (8 1/2 inches).
On the hare stand it is 28 cms (11 inches).
The
screen folds out to 520mm (2 feet 8 1.5 inches).
Joseph
Heinrichs firm was located in NYC around 1897 and they made kitchenware
for hotels, trains, etc. They were big designers during the Arts and
Crafts period.
His hammered pieces are some of the most collected. They worked almost exclusively in copper and sterling silver.
from Rainwater & Redfield’s “Encyclopedia of American Silver Manufacturers” they note that “Joseph
Heinrich worked as a molder and finisher of copperware in the late
1880’s.
