Superb huon pine tray, RARE

Item number: KIT15052339

Price: $375

This is a marvelous huon pine serving tray. I'm sure I don't need to tell you that huon pine is the rarest timber in the world, only found in the Huon Valley in Tasmania, and protected from any logging. Any huon pine which is used today must be recycled or dredged from the Huon River (incidentally huon pine does not rot and they used to make botas from huon pine because of the extraordinary quality). This superb tray is made from a cross cut through a large branch as it has bark on two sides. It is 46.5 cms long by 26 cms wide at the widest point. It is in excellent condition. Huon pine also takes some 3000 years to mature and is not a very large tree. Consequently it has a very tight grain and is often configured with birds-eye knots.

Huon pine and Australian red cedar were to two most sought-after timbers used in make the best Australian colonial furniture in the 18th and 19th century.

I have some colonial cedar and huon pine furnture for sale, under "Furniture", and in due course I will list my entire extensive collection which I have gathered over 20 years.

I have some other lovely wooden items, including more huon pine, for sale under "Woodenware".
