Edwardian sterling silver fob chain

Item number: STE31102203

Price: $225

This is an Edwardian fob chain, which was used to hold a pocket watch or vesta (match safe). It is hallmarked J.S. (maker), star (not sure if this is some city mark, not known to me), lion (for sterling) and small c. My guess it is made in Birmingham and so would date to 1903. Every link in the chain is stampled with a lion. The length of the chain is 34 cms. I do not think the clasp is solid silver, but I am not sure.

The case is generally in very good aged condition, although tehre are a couple of small dints on the front. The cigarette case is not dated but looks to be of Art Deco vintage, c1930. The dimensions of the cigarette case are approximately 8.5 x 8 x 1.5 cms. Note this is a rather thick case in which you can store cigarettes (or business cards) on both sides. The case weighs about 90 gms, which is just over 3 oz.
