Books

A fabulous old science book dating back to 1835. I have checked a website that this is a rare and valuable book before listing it here. The book is part of a series called Little Library. I believe there were two books on Botany, this being the first. The title of the book is:

"The Little Botanist; Steps to the Attainment og Biological Knowledge", by Caroline A. Halsted. It was publsihed in 1835 by John Harris, London. It has 243 pages, hardcover with leather spine, and gildered lettering. Overall it is in very good aged condition. The illustrations are drawn and engraved by J.D. Sowerby, from sketches of the authoress.

Publisher: John Walker & Co Ltd London. H/B, grey cloth, faded pattern to front board, faded titles, folio, plate of flags in colour, 52 plates of maps , in colour, 74pp index & information based on census 1891. Cover needs to be reglued but fantastic value here. The size of the book is 37.5 cms x 29.5 cms.

by Philip Gilbert Hamerton. Published by Macmillan and Co. London and New York, 1892, 344 pages with numerous plate in line-engraving, mezztint, photogravure, Hyalography, etching and wood-engraving.

This is the first edition, published by Melbourne University Press in 1956, in large quarto (34.5 cms x 26.5 cms), 69 pages with numerous drawings by Gwen Walsh and 31 plates (after photographs by Charles Mountford). It has a cloth cover and dust cover (torn in half, but repairable).
