800 German silver vase with flower design in front 4"1/2 height pre 1888 69.5 gms

Item number: STE03012006

Price: $175

This is a lovely antique German silver vase with an embossed flower with stem design at the front. It has the hallmarks "crown" "800" (purity of silver 800/1000) "unidentified symbol"(probably the maker's mark), and "11" (probably a pattern number). As it does not have the traditional cescent crown symbol it is pre-1888. It stand about 4 1/2 inches tall (10.5 cms), and weighs about 69.5 gms. The vase is in excellent condition, with just a couple of tiny dings around the tulb part of the vase.  I have not cleaned or polished the item.

antique sterling silver small ladle/tea caddy/sugar spoon Gorham 1902 ~ 39 gms

Item number: STE03012011

Price: $120

This is a lovely antique sterling silver small ladle or tea caddy spoon. It has the Gorham sterling silver hallmarls with PAT. 1902. The inside of the spoon/bowl part, has a gold wash. The spoon is about 6 inches (15 cms) long, and that does not take onto account the curvature. It has lovely patterens on the front and back of the handle and the bowl part has 2 flaps at the back. It weighs about 39 gms. It was hard to get an accurate weight because of the length of the spoon. The spoon is in excellent condition, with no damage or repairs.I have not cleaned or polished the item.

antique sterling silver Gorham enamel 2-prong fork c1900 ~17.3 gms enamelled

Item number: STE03012015

Price: $95

This is a lovely antique sterling silver small enamelled fork hallmarked to Gorham. I cannot find a date code/letter. I believe it is c1900 or older. It has lovely flower patterns on the front and back of the fork. The front of the spoon is enamelled in white, gold, green purple and blue. It looks like the fork also had a gold wash when it was made. Some of the gold wash remains. The fork is about 6 inches (15 cms) long, and weighs about 17.3 gms. The fork has two prongs and is in excellent condition, with no damage or repairs. I have not cleaned or polished the item. I believe this fork would have been used as an accessory item on a dining table.

Ornate hammered finish sterling silver bell

Item number: STE03012028

Price: $325

This is a fabulous sterling silver bell, either a dinner bell or maybe a headmaster's or manager's bell. It has a hammered Arts & Crafts finish with the handle screwing into the weight inside the bell. It is engraved Peter D Burr, August 6, 1968, but it looks older to me than the engraved date. Perhaps it belonged to someone before and was given to or acquired by Peter Burr in 1968. It is not hallmarked, as far as I can tell, but has been acid tested to be sterling silver. It is extremely well made and in excellent condition. The bell stands about 6 inches high and weighs about 134.5 gms, which is over 4 troy ounces

antique continental/German? sterling/800 silver match strike/striker/holder

Item number: STE07011224

Price: $125

This is a lovely antique sterling silver 800 match strike/striker/holder, I think? Or it may be an inkwell. Please consult photos and decide for yourself. It is hallmarked 800. The insert at the top looks to be brass. The tp and bottom can be rotated with respect to each other but I am unable to sepated them to see what is inside. It feels like it is weighted inside. I think it is a match striker. It is in excellent condition (see photos). There is one tiny dent near the bottom on the side. It weighs about 220 gms, but is clearly weighted inside. It is about 2 1/4 inches high (close to 6 cms).  I have not cleaned or polished the item.

vintage/antique small Tiffany & Co. sterling silver perfume bottle hip flask

Item number: STE07011231

Price: $195

This is absolutely lovely vintage small sterling silver perfume with screw top (water tight) and dipstick, marked "Tiffany & Co., Sterling", with engraved hands shaking on one side. In excellent aged condition. I have no idea of its age. It is extremely well made, unique and stunning personal item. It has been made to look like a tiny whisky hip flask. It is small, and quite heavy for size, about 16.1 gms. It is about 4.6 cms x 2.7 cms x 0.6 cms. (2.54 cms = 1"). It is not monogrammed. Here is what I found out about Tiffany & Co., a renown leading American (USA) silver company which started in 1837. This would make a great pendant, which can be used to hold your favourite perfume. A great Valentine's Day gift, especially with the hands engraved on the bottle.
TIFFANY & CO INC HISTORY
The firm was founded by Charles L. Tiffany in 1837 with John B. Young under the name Tiffany & Young.
In 1851 John C. Moore & Son entered into a special business relationship with Tiffany.
In 1868 the silverware factory of Moore became part of organisation with Edward C. Moore becoming one of the directors.
Throughout the remaining years of the 19th century, Tiffany’s won wide acclaim for the nature of its product and the wealth of its clientele.
Tiffany and Co. moved to its current location on New York 5th Ave. in 1940. The new building was immensely beautiful and was designed in the art deco style. Above the door is a statue of Atlas bearing the weight of the world. Instead of a globe being held above his head, he holds a clock. The architects of the building wanted to create an ominous affect that reminded Tiffany & Co.’s visitors of the rarity and preciousness of the treasures carried by the store. For that reason, all of the buildings doors were made to look like the doors of industrial bank vaults.
Today, Tiffany & Co. remains a leading maker of jewelry, china, crystal, silver, and glassware. Tiffany’s sterling pieces are some of the purest to be found in the world.

antique sterling silver Golf Trophy/vase/candle holder c1921 California

Item number: STE07011236

Price: $250

This is a lovely antique sterling silver vase holder (I think) which was given out as a trophy for the "Islam Temple Gold Tournament", at "Del Monte. Calif.", held on "Sept 23-24-25 1921", won by "Mrs George Gillman", for the "Ladies Flight WINNER". The top is conical in shape with a pieced top and a rolled edge. It is hallmarked to International Silver Co. with an eagle mark. One website suggests it may have been made by Simpson Hall Miller & Co, but I am not sure about that, as this is hallmarked "I. S. Co.", but with an eagle instead of a knight.  It may have been made by one of the other companies that were incorporated in the International Silver Co.. This trophy looks like it may been a vase perhaps, and may have had a glass insert, but I do not know, as it may have just been made as a trophy. It may also be made earlier than 1921 and then used at a later date in 1921 as the Golf Trophy. The item is also hallmarked "832" which would be its production/pattern number.  It weighs about 109 gms, which is about 3 1/2 ounces. The trophy is about 13 cms (or 5 1/4 inches) tall, and the diameter at the top is about 7 cms (or 2 3/4 inches). The diamter of the base is about 9 cms (or 3 1/2 inches).  The item is in excellent condition, with no dents or any damage.  I have not cleaned or polished the item.

antique sterling silver lidded container handle shaving mug? 1840 Cape Good Hope

Item number: STE07011246

Price: $950

This is a lovely antique sterling silver lidded and hinged cylindrical container with an ivory handle. The handle screws off. It is hallmarked to London 1840, and the maker is JT, which I have identified to be John Townsend of the Cape of Good hope Colony. I am not sure what this item would have been used for, maybe as a shaving mug.  The top of the lid is decorated with swirls and has what looks to be 2 foxes in the middle. The inside of the lid has "Briggs" and "Piccadilly" and the date stamp for London 1840 (plus something else) stamped on it. The hinge works well and the top closes snuggly. The ivery handle is turned. There are a couple of small cracks on the ivory close to where it connects to the silver, but is all very secure. The item is in excellent aged condition, being over 171 years old.  I cannot see and dents or damage to the silver. The item is quite weighty and well made. It weighs about 227 gms, or just under 8 ounces.  I have not cleaned or polished the item.

Please look at the photos (which form part of the description) and ask any questions if you have any concerns.
