Very Large colonial Australia Red Cedar Chest of 8 Drawers

Item number: FUR23031027

Price: $650

This is a huge antique c1880 australian red cedar chest drawers.

It has 8 drawers.

A long secret drawer at the top, a hat drawer in middle, with a similar size and 2 small ones on either side, with 3 large long drawers underneath.
The bottom drawer is huge at its bottom goes practically to the floor.

It is missing carved side columns or turned posts.
You can make some up or get made up. You can use sawdust and glue to fill the holes. Lots of sawdust when sanding.
I actually have some fine red cedar sawdust, and even some spare cedar.
A light sanding will bring the cedar grain right out.
I reckon a solvenmt wash will get that red dudty finish on it., followed by a sanding pad light sand.
The drawers all work nicely.

There are dust separators between the drawers. Over 5 foot high.
This was some piece.

$650 would not buy the cedar "wood" in this chest, and handles, escutcheons, locks, etc.
20 years ago these chest of drawers sold for $2000 each, that is about $8,000 today.
This devaluation is not permanent. Things come and go around in cycles.
This will appreciate soon with so many being dumped, painted, redone terribly now as well.

Would make a great project that will have huge financial gains again soon. A most rewarding and satisfying hobby job.

Tall colonial Australia Red Cedar Chest of 8 Drawers

Item number: FUR00262810

Price: $1250 $850 BARGAIN

I told you it was a bargain

Very good condition. Tall. Beautiful grain. The bottom drawer is huge. Original finish, with secret drawer on top. Over 5 feet tall.

Magnificent beast. Needs a couple of minor repairs, like a runner to be fixed into place (glue) and a stopper on 1 or 2 drawers.

The dimension are 1440 mm tall, 1070 mm wide and 500 mm deep (from wall to front of extended curvy drawer at top).

The bottom drawer is huge. the rail at the bottom is part of the bottom drawer. It must have been for blankets.

One of the middle square drawers at the top was a hat drawer. The curved drawer at the top was called a secret door.

130 years old and never been painted.

This is a bargain. These chests use to sell for $2000 minimum 20 years ago, and sometimes they were even painted.
Huon pine chests sold for a miniumum of $5000. minimum!

Those days of hunting down Australian colonial furniture will come back, especially with such fine timbers used.

Tall colonial Australia Red Cedar Chest of 8 Drawers c1880

Item number: FUR02031234

Price: $950 BARGAIN

Needs a touch of TLC (like a bit of glue and filling cracks) but generally good condition. About 5 foot high. I will let pictures tell the story. Unpainted! Original c1880. Original patina. Mostly intact. Missing 3 escutcheons, so need to move missing ones to lower drawers (one escutcheon goes up actually), and fill holes with cedar. I have some cedar I can give you that you can use. Some of the sides of drawers and stoppers may need a bit of gluing, no biggy.

Price is firm-ish unless yoiu can convince me you ahve passion for these old peices. Do not waste your time low-balling. I sold one less ornate for 850 recently. This is better. These guys use to sell for over $2000 20 years ago and are becoming rarer as as stupid people go for the river slab furniture look for now. They will become sort after again and will be worth $8000 in today's money equivalent increasing with inflation. Make no mistake. This is a great investment.

elephant inlaid (ebony and ivory) occasional table

Item number: FUR26032013

Price: $775

This is a stunning little occasional table with extensive inlay of what appears to be ivory (not bone as I cannot see the classic black specks) and ebony....I cannot say all of it is ivory but most of it seems to be...I can see grain in the ivory and i did do the hot needle test on some of the pieces of the inlay...the table stands about 40 cms tall and has a diamter of 40.5 cms...the image on the top resembles the Taj Mahal...note the fountain and birds and extensive vines....the legs are shaped like elephants (with ears and trunk) and extensively inlayed as well...in excellent aged condition...just needs a light sand and a good coat of shellac...this looks like a rather old piece to me but I cannot say what age is for definite....you will see that someone seems to have removed some of the old polish off it. This is absolutely beautiful...you will not be disapointed...you are unlikely to see something like this again.
